Component Blocks

Description

If you find this description to be familiar, that’s because Component Blocks are highly similar to Patterns (aka Reusable Blocks).

Opposite of a Regular Block, a Component Block is a Container Block or group of Container Blocks that are saved for reuse across your site. This is handy for content that repeats on multiple pages, because you only have to edit it in one place. Examples include CTA blocks, testimonials, or repetitive details in products such as shipping or returns policies. You can even save whole page layouts as a Component Block.

The key difference is that unlike Patterns, you can make changes to the content and settings of a Component Block after adding it, and it won’t impact other instances of the Component Block.

In the lefthand List View, Patterns can be spotted by their red reusable arrows symbol.

You can’t convert Component Blocks to Regular Blocks, or vice versa, using the one-click WordPress menu. Instead, you would create a new Component Block under Reusable Component Blocks > Add New. You can then easily copy/paste everything you want into the post and save it.

There aren’t Component Block settings because it’s a collection of blocks with their own settings.
